Decomposers feed on dead and decaying matter i.e. they are saprophytes. They breakdown organic matter and in doing so release nutrients back into the soil, for use by plants. In this way, they not only rid the soil of organic waste matter (which would accumulate if not decomposed), but also play an important role in nutrient recycling.

decomposers eat dead organic matter. termites, earth worms, and fungi are some of the decomposers that live in the tropical forests . Fungi are great decomposers and recycles of nature.
