Dental caries is caused by the action of acids on the enamel surface. The acid is produced when sugars (mainly sucrose) in foods or drinks react with bacteria present in the dental biofilm (plaque) on the tooth surface.

✔️Given below are some causes of dental caries ⤵️⤵️⤵️

➡ Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) bacteria is the leading cause of tooth decay.

➡ Bacteria like S. mutants feed on sugar and starches found on teeth.

➡ Bacterial metabolism produces acids that eat away teeth surfaces causing weak spots that can become cavities.

➡ This tooth decay is a result of an infection with certain types of bacteria that use sugar in food to make acids. Over time, these acids can make (holes) cavities in the tooth.
