Fossil fuel is a general term for buried combustible geologic deposits of organic materials, formed from decayed plants and animals that have been converted to crude oil, coal, natural gas, or heavy oils by exposure to heat and pressure in the earth's crust over hundreds of millions of years.

Two methods are:-

1) carbon dating method:-every organism has carbon-14 content in its body we can determine its age by checking the c-14 content as c-14 content decreases as age goes

2)when we dig into the earth the closer the fossil the recent is the fossil.

Answer:

Fossils are formed in the following way:

Usually, when the organisms die, their bodies decompose and be lost. But sometimes the body or at least some parts may be trapped in an environment that does not let it decompose completely and eventually harden and retain the impression of the body parts. All such preserved traces of living organisms form fossils.

The age of the fossil can be determined:

i. By determining the layer in which the fossil is found. The deeper the layer the older the fossil.

ii. Other method to determine the age of Radio-carbon dating.
