The salt water lakes are formed by the detachment of a lagoon of the sea-bay by the sand bar formation (Ex. Chilka lake, Lake Pulicat). Lake Sambar in Rajasthan is a saltwater lake now but is said to have been formed from the freshwater lake thousands of years back due to change of climate.
