Ferrous ( iron), and manganese are one of the metals which are found in oxide state.
To get solid metal they must be reduced using a strong reducing agent, aluminum metal may be used for this purpose.
It is a single displacement reaction where a very large amount of heat is evolved ( up to 3500°C).
Al(s) + Fe2O3(s) ---> Al2O3(s) + Fe(l)
4Al(s) + 3MnO2(s) ---> 2Al2O3(s) + 3Mn(l)
