Ethanol is produced by grinding up a crop or plant, the sugar that can be converted from the crop or plant is then dissolved. Microbes such as bacteria and yeast feed on the sugar. This produces ethanol and carbon dioxide. Then, to achieve the correct concentration the ethanol is purified.

Alcohol is produced by the process of fermentation. Fermentation occurs when microbes reacts I.E decompose organic matter such as suger (C6H12O6) and produces alcohol I.E hydroxyl group (-OH).

Microbes acts as enzymes in the process of fermentation.

(Enzymes are the biological catalyst)
