The food items that are not long lasting, and require preservation are called perishable foods. In order to preserve them- 1. Animal products like fish and meat are preserved in cold storage, as cold temperatures are able to contain the freshness of such foodstuffs. 2. crops are stored in godowns. They are also stored in buffer stocks, under the surveillance of pesticides and insecticides.
