Pollen grains are commonly called the male gametes ( or rather the ones containing the male gametes).
The pollen grains are produced by the Pollen Mother Cell or the Microspore Mother Cell (MMC). The MMC undergoes Meiosis and forms a Tetrad which results in the formation of pollen grains. Each MMC produces 4 pollen grains.
