Photosynthesis occurs in 2 steps:

Light reaction or Hill's reaction

Dark reaction or Blackmann's reaction

Light reaction occurs in light. During this step, photolysis of water occurs in presence of light.

O2is liberated and solar energy is converted into

ATP and the reducing power NADPH is produced.

During the dark reaction,

CO2 is reduced to glucose ( C6H12O6) in a series of steps with the help of ATP and NADPH

produced during light reaction.

glucose is converted later into starch and other organic compounds during various metabolic reactions.
