how are propan -1amine and propan-2-amine prepare from oxime
Answers
Propan-1-amine and propan-2-amine can be prepared from oxime when oxime is reacted by ammonium salt of carboxylic acid in presence of active metal like magnesium.
The reaction is basic in nature. The formula of oxime is R1R2NOH where R1 and R2 are alkyl group. The number of carbon in R1 and R2 determines the number of carbon in amine formed.
R1 and R2 also determine the type of amine formed whether the amine formed is primary or secondary. If R1 is hydrogen then amine formed is primary and if R1 and R2 are both alkyl group them the amine formed is secondary amine.
For the formation of propan-1-amine:-
R1=H and R2= CH3CH2 and oxime H(CH2CH3)NOH reacts with ammonium salt of carboxylic acid in presence of magnesium. The reaction is:-
H(CH3CH2)NOH + HCHOONH4 + Mg-------->propane 1-amine
For formation of propan-2-amine:-
R1=CH3 and R2=CH3 and oxime CH3(CH3)NOH reacts with ammonium salt of carboxylic acid in presence of magnesium. The reaction is:-
CH3(CH3)NOH + HCHOONH4 + Mg--------> propan-2-amine.
