An basic salt contains the conjugate base of a weak acid. So acetate is the conjugate base of a the weak acid acetic acid. So, sodium acetate is basic.(CH3COONa)
CH3COOH + NaOH = CH3COONa(basic salt) + H20
An acidic salt containg the conjugate acid of a weak base. So ammonium ion is the conjugate acid of the weak base ammonia. So, ammonium chloride would be an acidic salt.(NH4Cl)
The conjugate bases of stron acids (Cl- from HCl) and the conjugate acids from strong bases (Na+ from NaOH) are neutral and form neutral salts: NaCl
