How are the alveoli designed to maximise the change of gases?

alveoli have branches of many capillaries and they are balloon like structures which are filled with o2    

deoxygenated blood from all over body comes and gets oxygenated here and supplied again to the body.

♤ The alveoli present in the lungs provide maximum surface for exchange of gases.
