they are balloon like , thin walled, elastic and richly supplied by blood , which provides maximum exchange of gases by the process of diffusion.

Alveoli are numerous in number and small in size.they are supplied with rich blood supply.The baloney like structures of alveoli increase their surface area.The walls of alveoli are richly supplied with blood which helps them to maximise the exchange of gases.
