electrolysis which is used for decomposition of certain compounds and even formation is one of the example how humans use the chemical effects of electric current.

electroplating is another such example.

Electric current is used in the electrolytic decomposition of certain ionic compounds. For example, the decomposition of water to hydrogen and oxygen.

It is also used in electrolytic extraction of high reactive metals from their ores. High reactive metals like Sodium doesn't get displaced by carbon as they have high affinity for oxygen than carbon. Hence, high energy such as electricity is required to break the very high strong ionic bonds between opposite ions.

It is also used in electrolytic refining . Metals when obtained from their ores are not very pure. Hence, they are refined using electricity.

It is also used in electroplating where electricity is used to develop a layer on metal thus preventing corrosion.
