Eastern coastal plains and western coastal plains are different, former are broad (80-100km form north to south), smooth and unfit for making ports, large rives make wide deltas, low rainfall and made of fine alluvial soil especially on deltas (agriculture is developed) but latter are narrow (50-65km), broken and indented and suitable for ports, short swift rivers do not make deltas, high rainfall, made of coarse grained soil (infertile not suitable for agriculture except Malabar coast).
