The majority of monkeys, actually, did not evolve in the same environment as lions. Most of the monkeys actually live in tropical rainforests. Very few of them actually live in the savannah. There are a few, however, that do. The baboon is one of them.
How did the baboon evolve in the same environment as a lion? The same way any animal does. They live in a different niche. Baboons and lions aren't in direct competition with each other. Baboons are opportunistic eaters. They are omnivores that eat, nuts, plants, invertebrates, small mammals, etc. etc. Lions are obligate carnivores. they eat meat. They even eat baboons. Thus, they can live together in the same area without out competing each other.
In the rainforest of a small and narrow strip-shaped area called the Western Ghats in southwestern India, dwells a group of peculiar monkeys known as the lion-tailed macaques.
These monkeys earned their names from their distinctive appearance. Both males and females have a majestic grayish-white mane around their face. The black tufts of fur at the end of their tails are much like a lion's tail, although males' tufts are more defined than that of females. Their young are born with lighter faces and their manes do not grow until they are about two months old.
