India is a democratic country. The Lok Sabha is the house of the people. Therefore the people of India (those who are eligible) directly elect the members of the lok sabha.
First the election commission sets up constituencies in each state. From each constituency members of different parties will be contesting the elections.
After the votes are counted the candidate with a simple majority gets elected.
Consider the following example:
Total votes in constituency=2000
Votes attained by candidate A=800
Votes attained by candidate B=500
Votes attained by candidate C=400
Invalid votes =300
So, candidate A has secured maximum votes. Hence candidate A is elected.

- The Lok Sabha is usually elected once every five years.
- The country is divided into numerous constituencies and each of these constituencies elects one person to the Parliament.
- The candidates who contest elections usually belong to different political parties.
- Once elected, these candidates become Members of Parliament or MPs. These MPs together make up the Parliament.
