When iron reacts with water, it forms ferric oxide instead of ferric hydroxide. Thus (Fe3O4) and H2 gas is liberated.

When a metal reacts with water ,it forms metal oxide and evolves hydrogen gas.
here, Fe(iron) is a metal and when it reacts with water it forms Ferrous Ferric oxide and hydrogen gas is evolved.
