The shapes of crowns of trees and their location on earth are related. For e.g. trees in hilly areas are conical in shape because of falling of snow but trees in plains are not conical in shape and are flat because snow didn't fall here.

Like most of the life on planet earth, specifies have learned to evolved with their surroundings. Just like animals living in cold places are adapted to have thick coats of fur and animals living in the sea have gills instead of lungs, plants and trees have also evolved and adapted to their surroundings in order to survive and thrive.
This is very evident in the shape of their crowns of trees. For example, in cold weather, the trees have conical shaped crown which performs the function of protecting the fruit, seed and pollen, however in dry and warmer areas, the trees have flatter crowns, which performs the function of protecting from heat.
