Western Ghats:
They have higher elevation than the eastern ghats.
They form source of most of the peninsular rivers. For instance, Krishna, Godavari, Kaveri and Narmada
They're continuous
The highest peaks are Anai Mudi and Doda Betta.
They lie in the western part of peninsular India, hence the name western ghats.

Eastern ghats
They have lower elevation.
They are discontinuous and are dissected by many rivers like Mahanadi, Krishna, Godavari, and Kaveri.
Their highest peak is Mahendragiri.
They lie in the eastern part of peninsular India, hence the name eastern ghats.
