On the basis of periodicity of eruption, volcanoes are classified into three types:
(i) active volcanoes,
(ii) dormant volcanoes
(iii) extinct volcanoes

volcanoes can be three types on the basis if eruption
1)Active volcanoe= Volcanoes that erupt frequently are called active volcanoes
eg.the barren island in andaman and Nicobar island
2)Dormant volcanoes = Volcanoes that has not erupted for past many years but may become active at some stage are called dormant volcanoes
eg. Mount fuji yama in japan
3)Extinct volcanoes = Volcanoes that have not been known to erupt for hundreds of yearsvand are not likely to erupt are called dormant volcanoes
