Explanation:

Xylem's basic function is to transport water from roots to stems and leaves but it also transport Minerals { Nutrients } dissolved in water. Xylem cells form long tubes that transport mixture of water and nutrients that flows through the xylem cells is called Xylem sap. This process doesn't require energy as the substances are transported through passive transport.

The phenomenon that allows the Xylem sap to flow upwards against gravity is called Capillary action.
