There are several ways that ocean is being polluted
1. Direct pollution by Oil spills from ship or ship disasters
2. Direct pollution by waste water, sewage water disposal
3. Indirect pollution where air pollutants settles into waterways, and oceans such as dirt, top soil or slit from field
4. Dump or wastage flowing from river
5. Industrial toxic waste.

Oceans are the largest water bodies on earth. Over the last few decades, surplus human activities have severely affected the marine life of oceans. Ocean pollution, also known as marine pollution, is the greatest threat for the survival of marine organisms. There are various ways by which human beings are polluting the oceans. These are as follows.
1) Pollution can enter the ocean directly. Polluting substances flow through rivers or drainage directly into the oceans. This is often how minerals and heavy metals or other pollutants from mining camps find their way into the oceans. The release of harmful chemicals into the ocean water leads to reduction of oxygen level, the decay of plant life , a severe decline in the quality of sea water etc. As a result, all levels of marine are highly affected.
2) Industrial and agricultural waste are another most common form of pollutants that are directly discharged into the oceans, resulting into ocean pollution. The dumping of toxic liquids in the oceans directly affects the marine life as they are considered hazardous and secondly, these substances raise the temperature of ocean. Plants and animals cannot survive in high temperature.
3) Oil spillage is another source of marine pollution. Crude oil lasts for many years in the sea and is extremely toxic to marine life, often suffocating marine animals to death once it entraps them.Crude oil is very difficult to clean.
4) Ocean mining in the deep sea is yet another source of ocean pollution. Ocean mining sites are drilled for silver, gold, copper, cobalt and zinc and that creates sulfide deposits up to three and a half thousand meters down into the ocean. Deep sea mining causes damage to the lowest levels of the oceans and increase the toxicity of that region.
5) Plastic is another major source of contamination of our ocean. Out of the 100 million tonnes of plastic produced every year, 10 million tonnes of plastic ends up into the oceans.
6) The greenhouse gases causing climate change are also having disastrous effect on the ocean. Our oceans are absorbing carbon dioxide, rapidly causing them to become more acidic. This also threatening the marine animals and plants, especially the vulnerable plankton and coral.
