Artificial silk or at times rayon is woven from cellulose. This manufacture is independent of the moth larvae. When natural silk is manufactured from larvae of silkworms, they get killed in the process in the aim of attaining long continuous threads. The worms are killed either by dipping in boiling water or by being pierced while still in the cocoon.
Manufacture of synthetic silk helps in survival of silkworms as they substitute the need for the natural silk.
