What are the characteristics of the particles of matter?

Particles of matter are very small and are invisible.  The particles of matter of one substance are all alike.  There are billions of particles in a gram of a matter.

The particles have color which is shown when light falls on them.  They have a shape and a small volume.  The particles of matter have attraction among them.  They also have odor sometimes.
 
Some particles of matter have spaces in between them.

(a) Presence of intermolecular spaces between particles.

(b) Particles are in constant motion.
