When benzene is treated with excess Cl2 in the presence of sunlight, addition reaction takes place to form benzene hexachloride. This is a free radical reaction, in presence of sunlight ,Cl2 undergoes homolytic fission to give 2 Cl2radicals whih add to the benzene ring.
