Digestion of fats: Butter is a fat product and gets digested in the small intestine. The bile juice secreted by the liver contains bile salts that break down large fat globules into smaller globules, so as to increase their surface area for the action of lipase

  1. Butter is a fat.
  2. It is digested only in small intestine.
  3. Bile juice contains Bile salts. They emulsify fats into small micelles.
  4. Bile also activates lipase. This lipase converts emulsified fats into fatty acids and glycerols.

  1. 'Fatty acids and glycerol', being insoluble in water cannot be absorbed into the blood directly.
  2. They are first modified into small micelles, which move into intestinal mucosal cells.
  3. They are reformed into very small protein coated fat globules called chylomicrons.
  4. Chylomicrons are transported into the lymph capillaries.
  5. The lymph vessels ultimately release the absorbed substances into the blood stream.
  6. The chylomicrons are broken down to fatty acids and glycerol by the action of the enzyme 'lipoprotein lipase'.
  7. They diffuse into the adipocytes of the adipose tissue and liver for storage.
