Q. How can a balanced chemical equation be made more informative? Explain with five examples.

Ans:-

Chemical equation :- The symbolic representation of a chemical reaction in terms of their symbols is known as chemical equation.

We can made a chemical equation more informative by adding some extra information like :-

  • The physical states of reactants and products takes part in a chemical reaction.

 2H_2 + O_2 \rightarrow 2H_2O

  • If there is evolution of gases and formation of precipitate we can use arrow like ↑ for evolution of gas and down arrow ↓ for formation of precipitate.

2Na + 2HCl \rightarrow 2NaCl + H_2 \uparrow

  • By adding the temperature, pressure or condition of reaction and presence of catalyst.

2AgCl + hv \rightarrow 2Ag + Cl_2

where hv is light (photons)

  • By adding the concentration of solution if reaction takes place in water.

 Mg + HNO_3(dil.) \rightarrow Mg(NO_3)2 + H_2\uparrow

  • By adding whether the reaction is exothermic or endothermic in nature.

C_6H_12O_6 + 6O_2 \rightarrow 6CO_2 + 6H_2O + 32 ATP

where ATP is the energy packets.

Answer:

The ways are

  • By indicating the physical states of reactants and products. Example gaseous state - (g), aqueous state - (a)
  • Write the name of reactants and products substances. Example         2Mg + O2 - 2MgO  Mg - magnesium, O2 - oxygen, MgO - magnesium oxide
  • By indicating the condition under reaction will take place.Example - we make a triangle to show heat is involve in this reaction
