A landfill site can be used to collect various bio-degradable waste. When huge amounts of pressure is put on this waste, it releases a inflammable gas called methane. This gas can be transported to homes to power stoves through pipes.

Bio gas can also be used in a gas engine to convert the energy in the gas into electricity and heat. Biogas can be compressed, the same way natural gas is compressed to CNG, and used to power motor vehicles.
