How can a poor self image do irreparable damage to us and give a handle to our crafty ribels to beat us with. Elaborate this statement with reference to the nightingale in the poem. Also bring out the irony in the frog's statement "your song must be your own".

The statement is true. Having a poor self image can destroy us. Our enemies can use this fact to beat us. In the poem, 'The Frog And The Nightingale' the Nightingale had a poor self image. She didn't have enough confidence on herself. The frog was very cunning and used her weakness to make her his student. He instructed her to change her song. He charged fees to people to hear her song. His instruction turned the Nightingale's song mechanical and his practice sessions made her tired. When nobody came to hear her song, the frog schooled her and told her to puff her lungs and sing loudly. When she tried to do this she burst a vein and died. If the Nightingale had enough confidence on herself she would have met her demise.

The frog said that your song must be your own bit he tried to change the Nightingale's song. He made her practice for hours and hours so that her voice could become strong like his.
When the Nightingale died he said that your song must be your own and the bird didn't understand this. He said He tried to teach her but shd was far too prone to influence far too tense far too nervous and called her a stupid creature.

Hope it helped.
