The international community banned the use of chemical and biological weapons after World War 1 and reinforced the ban in 1972 and 1993 by prohibiting their development, stockpiling and transfer. Advances in science and technology raise concerns that restraints on their use may be ignored or eroded.

Many  chemical  weapons  use  toxic  substances  to  kill  people. Most  of  this  poison  is  dumped  into  the  oceans  or lakes.People  are  often  exposed  to  this poison   due  to  sea  dumping, burial  of  chemicals  such  as  dioxins  etc.If  this poison  gets  mixed  with  the underground  water    and  anyone  drinks  it  then  results  will  not be  good.Such  poison  can  even  cause  choking, nerve  diseases, blood  related  diseases  and  blistering  problems. They  are  mostly  due  to  wars.Lake  Mokhovoe  has  suffered  a  lot  of  damage  due  to  the  released  diphosgene, phosgene  andpiric  acid.  Tons  of   hydrochloric  acid  was  dumped  into  the  lake. In  1960  its  Ph  level  became  so  low  that  it  killed  its  entire  plant  and  animal  life. The  lake  couldn't  recover   compltely. Its  Ph  level  is  still  low  upto  4.2-4.8.
