Trees and plants help in percolating the water by absorbing water ,as deforestation means the place which doesn't have trees the water cannot be saved and increase in population will increase the plantation of agriculture which needs more water . So deforestation and increase in population lead to a decrease in groundwater level.

Deforestation causes sunlight to reach the ground directly. It causes the ground to dry up and increases the evaporation of surface water, so the soil does not absorb it. Deforestation also causes the rainwater to become surface runoff, with little time to seep into the ground

Increased population : Demand for water has been increased by the increased population. As the number of humans increases, the consumption of water also increases.
