There is little protections and what there is must come from the courts and law. Example, ignorant common prejudice in California got the shameful prop 8 passed into law. Making gay marriage illegal. I wondered, how can people vote to take away the civil rights of others? This is mobocracy not democracy.

The amendment was overturned in a lower federal court and upheld in the Supreme Court. In the long run the fools who pushed their prejudice and hate upon us all lost the war! Lol
