Detergents that are biodegradeable are made up of fats and lye, fats and lye consist of organic molecules and organic components. components like phosphates(which is the main component in detergents and soaps),are found in nature v.i.a. the phosphate cycle, once it enters nature, it'll be consumed by bacteria and all other living things....

non-biodegradeable detergents use inorganic molecules and components.
