how can ground water and well water serve as an alarm for earthquakes

Water being liquid absorbs vibrations very quickly, hence even at the slightest movement, we find water quivering. So, when there is an approaching earthquake, the water will start vibrating before the main treble. This way on observing the surface of water, we'll get to get alarmed before the major quake strikes.
