The poor in this country is unfortunately a victim of vote bank politics. The political leaders shed a lot of crocodile tears for them just before the elections, when they go around campaigning for votes. After the elections, they are so busy making money that they conveniently forget the poor. This is true even for parties that have sprung up from the SC/ST plank.
For the poor to get a voice for their rightful dues, they need to have apolitical leaders like Jaiprakash Narayan or Anna Hazare, who can force the issue with the Government through mass movements or an honest leader like Narendra Modi, the incumbent Prime Minister, who has come from a poor background and is honest to the core.
