Hi, This is the answer
Spreading a little lime (calcium oxide) or ground limestone (calcium carbonate), it is something farmers and gardeners do to neutralise acidic soil no matter why the soil is acidic.

Mr. already gave to correct answer to combat/reverse the effect from acid rain ( curative & preventative), but worldwide there are millions of hectares of ‘nature’, from savanne into fertile & productive graslands, forests and into thick Jungle . Most of that is pretty fertile, and never ( for > 100000 years ) got a lime treatment.
