We can chemically remove the black coatings of copper dioxide by passing hydrogen gas over it. The hydrogen will remove the oxygen and leave coppermetal and water vapour.

Explanation:

Copper oxide reacts with hydrogen to form copper and water. So passing hydrogen gas over copper oxide will remove the black coating.
