Cut the cake horizontally from the center and vertically from the center using two cuts. Noe we have 4 equal parts. Place the 4 pieces on above the other and finally cut those pieces in the middle using one cut. We have 8 cake pieces with 3 cuts.

One cut from the east to west direction. (2 parts)
Second cut from north to south direction. (2 * 2 = total 4)
Third cut in the middle -> top to down direction. (4 * 2 = total 8)

tutorpace: The “correct” answer is to cut the cake in quarters (4 pieces) using 2 of the cuts – one horizontally down the center of the cake and the other vertically down the center of the cake. This will leave you with 4 pieces (or slices) of cake. Then, you can take all 4 pieces and arrange them in a stack that is 4 pieces high. Finally, you can just cut that stack of 4 pieces in half – using your third and final cut – and then you will end up with 8 pieces of cake!
