I’m not familiar with this air wedge technique, but here is a paper. You could measure the thickness of whatever spaces the glass plates apart, in your case the insulated wire, but I’m not sure how you could differentiate the thickness of just the insulation alone. What are you really trying to accomplish? There may be a lot better way to measure insulation thickness… do you want to measure it at one spot only? All along the wire? What is the range of wire diameters and what accuracy and resolution do you need? Define the requirements first, then try to pick the best way to achieve that.
