A wave is an oscillation accompanied by a transfer of energy. It is a to and fro motion.
Here both Longitudinal and Transverse Wave are the types of Mechanical Waves.
◆1.In a longitudinal wave, the displacement of the particle is parallel to the direction of the wave propagation.

2.This wave is marked by periodic compression zones and rarefaction zone.
For example:-Sound waves in air etc.

◆1. In Transverse Waves, the displacement of the particle is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the wave.

2.In transverse waves too, the particles do not move along with the wave. They move up and down .
For Example:- Water Ripples, waves of an earthquake etc.
