In response to some external stimulus, hypothalamus produces a thyrotrophin releasing hormone. The latter then stimulates the anterior lobe of pituitary to secrete TSH. If thyroxine is in excess in the blood it exerts a negative feed back control. In the positive feed back control an accumulating biochemical substance increases its own production.
