The valency of an atom is equal to the number of electrons in the outer shell if that number is four or less. Otherwise, the valency is equal to eight minus the number of electrons in the outer shell. Once you know the number of electrons, you can easily calculate the valency.

we calculate the valancey by using the atom structure the outer most sheep have electron less than 4 so the valancey as same as how many electron present in the outer most shell like carbon have atomic no 5 the outer most shell have 3 electron so the valancey is 3 when the electron is more than 4 so subtract by 8 like argon atomic no is 18 the electron present in the outer most sheep is 8 so subtract by 8 the valancey is zero so this is the answer of this question
