When the moist blue litmus paper is brought to HCL ( hydrochloric acid ) it turns it's colour, red this is because the blue litmus paper is basic in nature and acts as a base whereas HCL is an acid.

When we dip blue litmus paper in HCl solution then it's turns to red this shows that HCl is acidic in nature
