We know that distance = speed *time
If we knows the graph then we know the value of distance and time at an instant and therefore find the value of speed

We can determine the speed of an object from it distance time graph by the steepness of the slope . the steeper the slope the greater the speed . if it is parallel to the time axis it is considered stationery.
