3 Answers. Intensity is the total amount of energy falling (or going through) per unit area per unit time i.e, J m 2 . s . This is a very important result. You can increase the intensity of the radiation by either increasing the number of photons in it or increasing energy of each photon, or both.

The maximum energy of a photon is fixed at the moment of its generation. We cannot increase the energy of a photon and still call it the same photon....
