Experiment to prove that we exhale CO₂

Materials

Take a beaker of lime water .

Take an airtight cork to cover the beaker.

Procedure

Breathe close to the beaker containing lime water .

Do this for at least 10-15 minutes.

Observation

You will notice that the lime water after some times turns milky.

Result :

Hence the exhaled gas must contain carbon-dioxide as the lime after had turned milky.

Precautions :

Note that the beaker should be covered with an airtight cork so that air from the atmosphere does not react with the lime water.

Carefully remove the cork then breathe for sometime within the beaker then again fix the cork.
