As of 1947, India has declared itself as a democratic country, primarily due to what they have been fighting against: a monarchy. They desired a national government and one that works together, not with one ruler, but a group of people working together to develop the country. Therefore, according to the definition of democracy, which is, "a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives," one can infer that the government is democratic due to the way the country runs, which is through "elected representatives," such as our PM.
