how can we say that soil and wood are heterogeneous mixtures?

Heterogeneous mixtures are those who don't have uniform composition of components throughout...Soil has various components like humus, bacteria, worms, water,air etc that are not uniform..Hence its heterogeneous.. In wood, its composition consists of solid,some liquid and little gases when heated.
