It is produced from NaCl in three steps -
1: a cold and concentrated solution of NaCl reacts with ammonia and CO2 to form Sodium Bicarbonate
NaCl + NH3 + CO2 + H2O ===> NaHCO3 + NH4Cl
2: Sodium Bicarbonate is separated by filtration then dried and heated on heating Sodium Bicarbonate decomposes into sodium carbonate , CO2 and water
2 NaCO3 ∆ ===> Na2CO3 + CO2 + H2O
3: anhydrous sodium carbonate is dissolved in water and recrystallized to give washing soda crystals containing 10 molecules of water of crystallization
Na2CO3 + 10H2O ===> NA2CO3.10H2O
